Below is the WUSD enrollment numbers from the 2004-05 school year until 2023-24 school year. 2024-25 numbers, along with last year's test scores will be released in October. Numbers are expected to increase by about 100 students. Despite the decline in enrollment of over 600 students in the WUSD over the last 10 years, the WUSD has added numerous high-paid Staff including hiring full-time Assistant Superintendent, Assistant Principals (Deans), Student Advisors and Counselors at Mattie, Director of Curriculum, Grant Writer, unknown number of assistants or Secretaries and many other positions while losing part-time volunteer coordinators, part-time computer teacher, part-time typing teacher and Brooks PE teacher. These employees directly benefit WUSD students.
My priority is to have Site Councils from the schools, non-profit groups, parents, Staff and community groups analyze the Staff additions and come up with series of cuts to pay for part-time TK-5th grade classroom aids, typing classes for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, Brooks PE teacher and a part-time Volunteer Coordinator that will rotate, as needed, between schools.
